I work in advertising, and I'm familiar with making commercials. But I want to do more than make screaming car ads: I want to write and sell my own screenplay. I live in North Carolina, and two years ago I began exploring online screenwriting courses. I had a one-year-old daughter and a wife who works late, so taking a course in a classroom wasn't a good option. I chose UCLA Extension for its reputation and range of classes. I like to check into my class on my computer after I come home from work and change into my sweats. It's much more relaxed and convenient. Since I've been taking online classes, I've been able to exchange ideas with fellow writers around the world. In one class, we had a woman from the Netherlands - it was a great mix of people and they bring very interesting perspectives. I've also benefited from the instruction of experienced professionals. Our teacher, who actually works in the field, shows us patterns for what's made good screenplays in the past. I'm extremely happy with the classes.
